Humans create and utilise knowledge. Human interaction and input is the only way to create knowledge. Projects that fail to give knowledge creation the attention it deserves are more likely to end in failure.
Working efficiently and effectively with knowledge demands the motivation, specifically intrinsic motivation, of the employee, the individual drive to succeed as well as possible.
Knowledge-intensive jobs can only be effectively performed by intrinsically motivated employees. This intrinsic motivation is generated by the synergy of the employee and her job.
So is the organisation’s task simply to match the right employees to the right jobs? Well, clearly it is not…
Motivated employees are stimulated by their immediate environment, their line manager, their colleagues, the structures they work in and the culture of the organisation. Motivated employees remain motivated because the extrinsic motivation aspects (reward, perks) are not felt to be negative factors. |
