Organisations are increasingly structuring their activities in formal processes. That would be a good thing, but many of them only work out the existing situation when implementing process management, based on current information and document flows.
Intelligent process analysis distinguishes three primary components:
- The transactions conducted in an organisation and the corresponding responsibilities
- The information needed to conduct those transactions
- The result of those transactions
The transactions and the people who conduct them constitute the heart of the organisation. By focusing on what the organisation actually does and who actually participants in this process step, we avoid getting entangled in existing information systems and templates and we can form a better idea of the organisation’s key processes faster.
The main advantage of this way of describing processes is that it provides a very compact picture of the organisation and how it functions. This is the ideal starting point for evaluating the corporate structure and improving existing IT systems. |
